Prominent film production company Mythri Movie Makers today revealed the release date for the much-awaited Chiranjeevi film, ‘Waltair Veerayya‘. The Telugu film is all set to release in theatres worldwide on 13th January, 2023, on the auspicious festival of Sankranti.
There’s been lots of speculation doing the rounds of social media, regarding the ‘Waltair Veerayya’ release date in theatres. With the release date announcement, production company Mythri Movie Makers have finally made the Sankranthi 2023 date official.
However, by going in for a Sankranthi release for the much-awaited Chiranjeevi starrer, Mythri Movie Makers have set up a massive clash at the Telugu box office with its own ‘Veera Simha Reddy’, another much-awaited movie that Mythri is releasing on Sankranthi 2023, but a day earlier on January 12th, 2023. The Telugu box office will thus see a clash of Telugu biggies, Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna, at the Sankranthi box office – interestingly, both Mythri Movie Makers films.
And this is just the internal box office clash that Mythri Movie Makers have set up for Waltair Veerayya. The film will also have a massive external box office clash. It will have to vie with two other biggies for a share of the box office collections on the lucrative Sankranthi festival – Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ and Ajith Kumar’s ‘Thunivu’. Both have announced their intention to release in theatres on Sankranthi 2023. The clash will be especially intense in the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
There’s massive anticipation for all four films – Waltair Veerayya, Veera Simha Reddy, Varisu and Thunivu. The latter two have already planned to release in multiple language dubbed versions across India. The Telugu producers association, sensing the intensity of the box office clash on Sankranthi 2023, have already made a plea that maximum theatre screens should be reserved for Telugu movies, and not Telugu-dubbed movies.
Akhil Akkineni’s Telugu film ‘Agent’ has also set up a Sankranti 2023 release. But as per industry insiders and trade trackers, ‘Agent’ will most likely be postponed to a later date. There’s no official announcement on the matter yet.
Waltair Veerayya is a Telugu action film, starring Chiranjeevi in the titular role, alongside Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan, Catherine Tresa and Bobby Simha. It is directed by K. S. Ravindra and produced by Mythri Movie Makers.
