Streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime etc provide a lot of content to their viewers to enjoy, what if you could have your own streaming service too?
That’s what Laminar Global, a startup launched in August last year is doing. The start-up which has been founded by Raheel Khursheed, Kumar Shorav, Narendra Nag, Shanyang Yin and Tirthraj Singh who met each other over the course of 20 years before joining hands to start their company.
The start-up helps content creators build their own platform and offers a similar experience to OTT services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. It provides the technology and infrastructure to the creator’s platform so that they can focus on one thing – the content.
Explaining the business model Narendra Nag says, “For anyone who wants to launch a subscriber-led video streaming service, at any scale, we give you everything you need at zero upfront cost and an extraordinarily reasonable share of revenue or a flat fee per paying user if you’re going to get hundreds of thousands of subscribers.”
The market for digital video streaming is growing tremendously as people are increasingly switching to online modes of content consumption. In a recent report, it has been estimated that 80% of total internet traffic in 2020 was due to video streaming and Netflix accounts for a whopping 15% of that.
This just goes to show the clear demand for such a start-up and one that could give a tough competition to established players in the coming years
