What? Sivakarthikeyan’s Don Dethroned Stranger Things on Netflix India?

The much awaited tamil language comedy drama movie ‘Don‘ starring Sivakarthikeyan dropped on Netflix on 10th June and in hardly two days it did the unthinkable! You’re absolutely right. Don dethroned the behemoth Stranger Things from it’s unshakable #1 on Netflix India.

This is quite a huge achievement considering RRR, Jana Gana Mana, Jersey and Gangubai Kathiawadi couldn’t rise to #1 once Stranger Things season 4 Vol. 1 dropped on Netflix. One could assume this is because ‘Don’ was already a commercial hit when it released at the movies and people were waiting for its streaming release. Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Doctor’ (a blockbuster at the movies and Netflix) also played a huge role in maintaining the consistency and track-record for the star on Netflix India. Don features SJ Suryah, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Samuthirakani and Soori in pivotal roles.

The coming-of-age template film’s plot revolves around a reluctant engineering student (Sivakarthikeyan) and his repeated clashes with his college’s discipline mentor (SJ Suryah). The film was not only commercially successful, but also critically appreciated especially for Sivakarthikeyan and SJ Suryah’s performances.

Don is Cibil Chakaravarthi’s directorial debut where he also penned the screenplay of the film. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions alongside Sivakarthikeyan who also co-produced under his own banner. The film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography and editing handled by KM Bhaskaran and Nagooran respectively. Now that it’s certain, Don is literally repeating Doctor’s success on Netflix India.
