Malavika Mohanan, the daughter of Indian cinematographer K.U. Mohanan (who works predominantly in Bollywood and in Mollywood) has made a name for herself in the past few years as an actor. Initially deciding to be a cinematographer like her father and eventually becoming director, the young woman was asked by Mollywood megastar, Mammootty if she had any interest in acting, when they met during a commercial shoot. After deliberating on it for a long time, she made a decision to try acting and acted in her first film, ‘Pattam Pole’ opposite Dulquer Salman, in 2010. Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi
This Disney+ Hotstar streaming Kannada movie released in theatres back in 2016. Set in the backdrop of the sport of Motocross, the film follows two bitter rivals Munna and Charan competing against each other for the upcoming competition. The situation becomes more complicated when Munna falls for Charan’s sister, Varalakshmi.
One of her biggest films of 2017, Malavika shows off her acting chops in this film. The movie follows Amir, a young drug dealer who involves his sister in his drug dealings to avoid getting caught by the police. The most successful theatrical release of the year 2021 around the world at one point, ‘Master’ is one movie which cannot be easily forgotten. The film follows JD, an alcoholic professor who has been assigned to the most unruly of all classes (which was unknown to him). He clashes with a local ruthless gangster who uses these students as scapegoats for his crimes. This action thriller is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Malavika got the honour to work with one of biggest Indian actors of all time – Rajnikanth himself, in this movie. The film follows a hostel warden, Kaali who stands up to local goons to save Anwar, the son of his best friend. Malavika’s first big movie and the turning point in her career also turned out to be the best movie she acted in so far. The 2017 film follows a famed builder, David Nainan. When he finds out that his 10-year old daughter, Sarah was raped, he and his wife, Michelle sets out to find the rapist. What they find is a string of crimes committed by this serial rapist.
