Marvel continues to wow us, this time on the small screen with the brilliant TV shows ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’, which keeps up with the cinematic continuity, making it an interesting (transition”al”) watch. But what has made these TV series extremely popular is not just the recurring of major Marvel movie characters, the MCU “formula” or the visuals (although, they do help quite a bit), it is the introduction of new and obscure Marvel characters from the comics into the TV series.
The introduction of Agatha Harkness, Monica Rambeau, Karli Morgenthau, John Walker, Isaiah Bradley and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine among many others in these TV series has got the whole Marvel comic fan community buzzing. It has sparked a whole new debate on who is going to cameo in the next, be it in the last episode of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ (unlikely) or in the upcoming ‘Loki’ miniseries.
Of course, we knew that Monica Rambeau and John Walker were already coming on ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ respectively before the series aired, similar to how Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius and Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Lexus Renslayer will be making an appearance on ‘Loki’. But actors Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, and Erika Coleman have been cast in undisclosed roles for the same TV show, so it’s exciting to know that there will be more (obscure) comic book characters making their appearance in this space-time, interdimensional travel superhero series.
Sophia Di Martino and Richard E. Grant are rumoured to portray two different versions of Loki, which would be awesome to see – but it would be more epic to see an unknown character make their appearance on screen. We are long overdue for a proper villain within the MCU (Thanos being the last main one), and we hope to meet said antagonist in this “in-space mini-series”. Plus, Ravonna Lexus Renslayer was a woman who fell in love with Kang the Conqueror, the biggest antagonist of the Avengers, after Thanos (in the comics). Of course, for continuity’s sake, if Kang does appear, we expect Marvel to make him more ruthless, powerful, and/ or dangerous than Thanos (which we are fine with).
Or we could just meet Verity Willis, Loki’s best friend, and a woman who can see through all lies (ironic). Of course, she might not be his best friend from the beginning of the show, but we expect a friendship forged through adversity-thing to happen during the series. As much as we would love to see Kang the Conqueror, or even whispered in this upcoming series, my money is on Verity to make her MCU debut.
