Yash Raj Films is perhaps the biggest production house in Bollywood. Their dominance over the theatrical chain is undeniably the strongest and they use it to their maximum benefit. On top of that, Ranveer Singh is a big name who has a certain capability to pull the masses.
But on the opening day of Jayeshbhai Jordaar, it couldn’t even gross 4 crores.
Some people argue that this is the time for South-Indian cinema to rule but apart from the monstrous success of RRR and KGF Chapter 2, they also gave two of the biggest disasters ever namely Radhe Shyam and Acharya. Also, let’s not forget the fate of Khiladi, Beast and many more.
Long story short, it’s not a matter of Bollywood, Tollywood or any specific industry for that matter. It is an alarming concern for Indian filmmakers and the audience as a whole.
The audience is not even considering the films which fail to give them a larger than life experience. It all comes down to massy entertainers which also contains some hugely problematic elements. For instance, Rocky from KGF kidnaps Reena against her will and even Pushpa was not untouched by regressive stalking.
Such highly problematic stalking has always been there in mainstream cinema so what’s suddenly so dangerous about it?
Remember 2019 when Kabir Singh was performing tremendously at the box office while Twitteratis were calling out toxic masculinity. It was a time when people were talking about the progression of content in cinema.
Sadly that voice is somewhere lost and all people care about is larger than life theatrical experience which takes immense budget and time to make. Also, they hardly provide something sensible to the audience.
