We all have our favorites on Netflix, the ones we secretly hope Netflix continues to stream on their platform even after the show has ended. Sometimes the makers decide to end the story after a few seasons but it’s a bigger heartbreak when Netflix decides to discontinue and lately, this streaming giant is breaking a hell lot of hearts!
It recently cancelled ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ and ‘Dead To Me’. These shows will be coming with their final episode/s or season this year and next year. This comes as a surprise because both the shows were highly popular and successfully spent a number of days in Netflix top 10. Fans are confused and disappointed!
Netflix is certainly cancelling more shows than never. One of the reasons could be the volume of originals it currently streams. In 2013, when it had only three originals, there was a zeal to keep these shows running (House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and Orange Is the New Black). But today with hundreds of originals, it has the ability to discontinue all the shows that do not perform as Netflix had expected them to. This year it ordered nearly 40 English live-action comedy and drama, out of which 16 have already been cancelled after one season (this includes four mini series).
This giant streaming platform had sent to letter to the British government disclosing how they measure success. They follow these metrics-
– ‘Starters’ — Subscribers that watch two minutes of a film or of an episode in a series.
– ‘Completers’ — Subscribers that watch 90 percent of a film or a season of any series.
– ‘Watchers’ — Subscribers that watch 70 percent of a movie or one episode in a series.
