One has seen an enormous shift in the way that digital content is being created and consumed. You can finally see the underlying talented actors get their fair share of appreciation due to the unbiased approach of most filmmakers on the OTT platforms.
The Bollywood entertainment industry used to function in a very traditional and orthodox manner, but there has suddenly been a drastic shift in the mindset of viewers as they are getting hooked to the emergence of a new streaming culture.
Big-name stars like the Khan’s used to be judged by their footfalls and their opening weekend earnings with all of them having the majority share of the screens across India. Nobody else could even think of trying and competing against them.
These stars relied on their huge fan following, and at times they solely flocked the theatres because of the big names rather than the quality of the film being produced. That is not the case as streaming platforms have now given an equal opportunity to every actor who has the talent and determination to prove his worth.
What this also does is help create a diverse range of content that was unheard of in a Bollywood culture that mostly depended on the economics and bankability of the star rather than the story to survive in a cut-throat industry. All of that has changed and for good.
In order to survive, one must evolve, and that can only be done by embracing the changes that have taken place. Gone are the days when the blind fans could excite or make a movie a great box office hit with very little consideration for the storyline. Now is the when one can honestly say that ‘CONTENT IS KING’ and if the superstars want to prove their worth they better be damn good at what they do.
