Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man No Way Home is the hottest buzz in the entertainment industry today. It seems like this year’s December entirely belongs to the friendly neighbourhood superhero. The project has devoured the majority of the traditional “Christmas movie time” feel from big releases in the form of The Matrix Resurrections and The King’s Man.
Amidst the infinite hype for the forthcoming Spidey instalment, Holland has hinted at his clouded future in the MCU. In his recent talk with GQ, the actor discussed the possibility of a potential Miles Morales film. He mentioned that he has to move on and focus on other projects. Additionally, he cannot see himself donning the iconic Spidey suit after reaching the age of 30.
Is it the right time to deliver a live-action Miles Morales project? Are we looking at Holland’s permanent departure from the MCU? Let’s dive deep into this scenario!
Tom Holland’s overall MCU odyssey
The British actor’s life flipped upside down when he was hand-picked for playing the legendary web-slinger. He was just 19-year-old at the time of his selection. The mixed reception of the TASM series and its dissatisfactory box office figures prompted Sony to put a curtain on the franchise for good. The studio ended a four-movie Spidey deal with Andrew Garfield abruptly and signed a new contract with Disney to add the superhero to the pack of Avengers. His appearance in the second trailer of the acclaimed Civil War (2016) confirmed his inclusion in the MCU.
Holland signed a six-movie deal with the Marvel Studios that started with the third Captain America instalment. He also made crucial appearances in the Infinity War (2018) and the Endgame (2019). Now, his Spider-Man trilogy will conclude with No Way Home’s release.
Should Tom Holland leave MCU for good?
There’s no doubt that this question is tough to answer. Diehard Marvel fanbase wants Tom Holland to stay with the superhero franchise. Veteran producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that she will not replace him. On the other hand, the Brit performer is unsure about this future with the renowned defender of Queens, New York.
If we closely scrutinise this situation, we will comprehend that Holland has a bright future ahead of him. He reached 25 in June this year. And he has a vast collection of opportunities to star in other projects. Not many actors have been able to gain the level of stardom that Holland already possesses in recent times. To be recognisable in every continent of the world, that takes some exceptional talent. And the British boy proudly treasures this immeasurable quality.
That’s why Tom needs to work on other projects and explore different genres to improve his acting strengths. We have seen many prominent performers trying so desperately to leave the image of their previous acclaimed characters. Still, a lot of them have failed miserably in this process. We can throw talents like Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Haley Joel Osment, Macaulay Culkin, Jake Llyod, and many more into this mess. They all are dealing with the same pathetic case. After all, not everyone is Robert Pattinson!
Should Tom break all bonds with the superhero franchise? This question requires some time to be answered correctly. But we know that he is and always will be a perfect choice for Spider-Man. We may even see him in future Spidey films, in case he changes his mind.
What about an eventual Miles Morales project?
Do you remember that Miles already has been mentioned in the MCU? Think closely! It is time to look back to Homecoming (2017). There’s a scene between Peter and Aaron Davis when the latter mentions his nephew. His nephew is none other than Miles Morales. Director Jon Watts has left a path for a future Miles entry by integrating that scene. Furthermore, we cannot ignore the events of Endgame. The highest-grossing MCU movie took a giant leap of five years to conclude the first three phases of the franchise. It means that all the post-Endgame events took place during 2023-24.
We have watched Sam, Bucky, Loki, Wanda, Clint, and many more dealing with the aftereffects of the five-year-long Blip in their respective instalments. And if the studio is dead serious about Miles taking the mantle from Peter, then it means that he must have survived the notorious Blip. According to the comics, he was bitten by a radioactive spider when he was 13. He must be this old in the current MCU timeline.
However, every franchise cares about its fanbase. And the Marvel lovers are so not ready for Tom Holland’s takeoff from the superhero franchise. A majority of them have expressed their desire to see him enjoying his college life in theatres. They think that it is too early to launch Miles in his live-action movie. Also, the executives have not released any confirmation regarding a possible Miles Morales film.
We will inform you as soon as we receive any official info about this situation.
