They know that their days of starring in big-banner and costly projects are over. Nowadays, a majority of them are desperate to find a good spot on the OTT platforms. And why not? OTT shows are a sensation in present times.
Do you remember those days when movie actresses hated being a part of a tv show? There was a time when daily soaps were the face of Indian television. And people (except middle-aged Indian aunties) remember how those brainless and illogical shows used to torture them in the name of so-called entertainment. To this present day, they don’t make any sense at all.
But thanks to the OTT platforms for providing a better place to watch our favourite shows. They have enabled us to explore different genres and get familiar with fresh content. As for forgotten Bollywood actresses, these platforms are perfect to prove their worth once again.
We have former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen, coming up with the sophomore season of Aarya. Additionally, Lara Dutta has become a prominent figure in the OTT universe. Her roles in Hundred (Disney+ Hotstar) and Bell Bottom gave much-needed backing to her crippled career. Now, Raveena Tandon has also found a place on the upcoming Netflix instalment, Aranyak.
Now, the time has come to talk about the actual issue. Will OTT shows help these once-known actresses to take their acting careers to new heights? Honestly, it looks like there’s no fixed answer to this question.
The quality of the content matters most to the viewers. But also, we have to focus on the acting performances. Furthermore, we cannot ignore the limited reach of OTT platforms in India. It is not like they are being watched and enjoyed in every household. Their cuss words and adult age ratings have already made them ‘unwatchable’ in the minds of a majority of Indian masses. They prefer those contents that pay a proper tribute to our country’s culture and traditions. So, we cannot expect every OTT show to emerge as an instant hit.
But there is a future for low-budget OTT shows on streaming platforms these days. Their makers receive a decent profit after their releases. However, they are unable to get high-paid actresses due to budget constraints. That’s why they turn their attention to new, old or lost actresses.
It is not like these actresses do not have a bright future. But that dream requires strong and captivating acting performances in top-quality OTT shows. They have to give everything they have to their characters. Plus, they have to rely on a bit of good luck. These things will help them in regaining their long-lost fame.
