Will ‘Rocket Boys’ Be Next Scam 1992 For SonyLIV? Buzz Says It Will!

Will ‘Rocket Boys’ Be Next Scam 1992 For SonyLIV? Buzz Says It Will!

Circa 2020. SonyLIV announced its arrival in the cluttered Indian streaming space with a zinger of a show. The much-adulated ‘Scam 1992’ won the hearts of critics and audiences alike, not to say, a clutch of awards at every awards event it was a part of. Much more significantly, Scam 1992 established SonyLIV’s status as a streaming platform to reckon.

Two years and scores of top-rated shows later, SonyLIV is hard-pressed to replicate the astounding success of Scam 1992. Of course, there was the grim ‘Tabbar’ last year. But even with all the appreciation it received, Tabbar was still notches behind Scam 1992 in the kind of universal acclaim and recognition heaped upon the latter.

All of that is about to change, looks like. SonyLIV has just dropped the first trailer for its highly anticipated original series, ‘Rocket Boys’. The trailer is riveting, engaging and wholesome. The quality of the trailer gives ample hint of the quality that awaits us when the SonyLIV original series premieres. For the unversed, Rocket Boys premieres on SonyLIV on 4th February.

The casting is delectable. The edgy Jim Sarbh as Homi Bhabha, father of India’s atomic program; the utterly charming Ishwak Singh as Vikram Sarabhai, pioneer of India’s space program; and the masterstroke – fresh-faced actor Arjun Radhakrishnan as….A P J Abdul Kalam! The euphoric social media reaction to the last has to be seen to be believed. If ever there was a virtual equivalent of a standing ovation where the crowd broke out in ruptures, this was it! Almost every Twitter user who tweeted about the ‘Rocket Boys’ trailer has responded with a terse ‘goosebumps moment’ for A. P. J Abdul Kalam’s surprise appearance in the trailer.

That A. P. K Abdul Kalam’s character appears in the final few seconds of the trailer is the icing on the cake. It is what has tilted the balance overwhelmingly in favour of the trailer, and thus, the show itself. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam became the final takeaway for viewers of the trailer. And we can bet our last penny it will linger on in their minds for days – until the series drops on SonyLIV! Talk about ‘product placement’! Mic drop!

The rest of the Rocket Boys trailer is as thrilling as that last second moment. Humour, drama, emotion, romance, a sense of urgency, suspense, scheming and conspiring, conspiracies – the trailer hints that the series will have all this and more. Not to say, the production design is excellent; the dialogue is razor sharp; and the stakes get higher with every passing moment.

Yes sir! Rocket Boys has the potential to be an absolute winner. Just like Scam 1992! SonyLIV has ARRIVED!

Rocket Boys is created by Nikkhil Advani, Roy Kapur Films, and Emmay Entertainment, and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and Nikkhil Advani. The show has been directed by Abhay Pannu. It also stars talents like Regina Cassandra, Rajat Kapur, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Saba Azad, besides the aforementioned.
