Netflix has been on a cancelling spree recently, with series like The Irregulars being cancelled, fans were worried if some of their favourites would make a comeback for the next season. Well, besides everything else, it seems like Netflix isn’t yet done with one of its series at least. Here, we are talking about Netflix’s epic fantasy drama “Shadow and Bone”. It has been confirmed that Shadow and Bone is finally returning for a second season. Netflix was ought to revive it, as Shadow and Bone showed exemplary success on its release.
Netflix has over the years revealed the viewership of its hit movies and shows. It did it for Queen’s Gambit, and did the same for Bridgerton, which had a record breaking viewership of 82 million viewers. Just like that, Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone” also saw considerable success as it was viewed by 55 million households in its first 28 days.
The show’s success was visible through Netflix’s top 10 lists too. Shadow and Bone was on the top 10 list of Netflix in 93 countries and hit the No. 1 spot in 79 countries, including the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Germany, South Africa, Russia and Spain. Even for India, the show was considerably a massive hit as it spent weeks on the top 10 list after its release.
Author Leigh Bardugo, whose Grishaverse novels are the main base of the fantasy drama, exclaimed her happiness at the news as she believes that the massive Grishaverse world has got a chance to expand and mentioned how there are so many parts that the upcoming season could travel to within the universe. Leigh Bardugo, along with being the author, serves as the executive producer for the show.
Showrunner Eric Heisserer returns to helm the second season as well. Claiming that he feels extremely honoured to come back to show and continue to tell the story and vision that Grishaverse holds. Heisserer has big plans for the upcoming season, as he plans to bring more new characters into the show. That eventually means there will definitely be a major casting coup involved for the newly added characters. As for the older cast, it is revealed at the moment that they will be returning for Season 2.
Industry insiders believe that if Eric Heisserer stays in the project for upcoming seasons, the show definitely will be seen as a massive success for Netflix. Heisserer has worked on Netflix’s superhit film “Bird Box”, before Shadows and Bone. Also, he has films like “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Hours”, “Final Destination 5”, “Bloodshot” in his bag, which instantly proves that he definitely is the man to take Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone” forward to even greater success.
