Zeeplex, the Pay per view platform of Zee Network recently pulled off Indian Cinema’s first major release with Salman Khan‘s Radhe. The movie has failed to impress the audience but the response has been phenomenal for the OTT platform. Zeeplex is now keen on replicating the formula elsewhere in the country to increase its presence.
We have reliably learned that Zee had approached two medium-budget films of the Telugu film industry to skip their theatrical release and release online directly. Both these films were supposed to release in the months of April and May but their release has been held up due to the COVID second wave. But the makers of both the films vehemently rejected the offer.
“Telugu film industry hopes of a very quick recovery once the cases are down like how it happened between January to March earlier this year. The filmmakers are not keen on skipping the theatrical window. Also, they feel the Telugu audience is still not ready for the Pay per view model yet and so, they are not ready. Moreover, the OTT platforms did not offer any irresistible offer for the makers to take such a risk,” a source in the know told us.
