What Is the Story About?

The fourth season of Little Things is about finding closure to the open-ended relationship of Kavya (Mithila Palkar) and Dhruv (Dhruv Sehgal). Will they take that next step? What is stopping them, and how do their parents feel form the crux of the series.

Performances?

Dhruv Sehgal and Mithila Palkar are by now living the characters instead of acting them. They wonderfully capture every minor detail and beat. They do what they have been doing from the start with ease. The tricky part here is maintaining the freshness across the seasons, and they do it with aplomb.

The entire series squarely rests on the shoulders of Dhruv and Mithila. If not for their sheer chemistry, timing and fun, it would have been exhausting to sit through the proceedings, which for the most comprises of them conversing with each other, getting angry and pulling legs.

Analysis

Dhruv Sehgal is the creator of the show besides acting as the main lead. Abhinandan Sridhar is credited with the development of the fourth season. Ruchir Arun is the director.

The fourth season begins with the reunion of Kavya and Dhruv on a Kerala trip. It happens after more than a year of distant relationship which has now crossed the country. Kavya lives in Nagpur with her parents, whereas Dhruv is in Finland working his dream job.

The initial few episodes lack the magic of the previous season. Yes, the two show the sparks, but there is a lot of irritation and anger. The way Dhruv’s character behaves looks over the top and formulaic. The entire Kerala trip stretch has very few exciting moments.

Things get back on track once Kavya and Dhruv reach Mumbai again. How their journey continues after all the years is the crux of the narrative. It has been the same before, but the genuineness and warmth can be felt. The accident and staying at home seems forced into the proceedings but is alright.

Even after we cross the mid-way, the magic of the first two seasons isn’t felt. There is a lot of repetition, and the problems the characters go through look like a drag after all this time. Finally, things are back on track towards the end of the series.

The ultimate decision Kavya and Dhruv take, the way it takes place, and the ending leaves a pleasant feeling. The music and the performances enhance the appeal. However, the conclusion is again on an ambiguous note. Will they return for a new season? Or is it the end is up for debate.

Overall, Little Things 4 has more of Kavya and Dhruv, who finally evolve to the next stage. It happens very late in the day and after a lot of talks. If you are connected with the characters, go ahead and watch for the fun and frustration that we all have loved so far. If you are new, start from the beginning as Little Things has very rarely frequently heard relatable moments and conversations that stay with us.

Other Artists?

There are no noteworthy new additions to the cast. Almost everyone is seen before and continue to be in an acceptable form whenever they appear. The actors playing the parents of Kavya and Dhruv get some footage towards the end. They bring the required warmth with their presence.

Music and Other Departments?

Neel Adhikari composes the music and background score. They add to the mood of the film and enhance its emotional appeal. The editing by Samarth Dixit is good. It helps in creating a proper flow of emotions between the lead. What then happens is even the scenes without much dialogue hold attention.  Gaurav Patki’s writing is superb, although it gets repetitive at times.
