He was on the verge of outing the nexus between the Mexican drug cartels and hi-profile American government officials, and had also been giving a lot of heat to the drug cartel owners. His story was partially covered in the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico, but its Season 1 ended with Camarena’s murder, without delving into any of the controversial truth behind it. This documentary series promises to unravel that truth, insinuating the alleged connivance of the CIA in Camarena’s murder. The docu-series features extensive interviews with special agent Hector Berellez, who was tasked with finding out what actually happened to Camarena, and with the three Guadalajara Cartel insiders – former drug lord bodyguards who turned approver in the case, and helped Berellez find out the spine-chilling truth behind Camarena’s torture and murder. Through these interviews, viewers learn the truth behind the upright DEA agent’s murder. The 4-part series also includes interviews with Kiki’s widow.
