War 2 has finally hit the big screens, and the excitement around it is huge. With Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR leading the film, it was always going to be one of the most awaited releases of the year. The film is part of YRF’s Spy Universe, which already has big blockbusters like Ek Tha Tiger, War and Pathaan. Fans have been following this universe closely, and naturally, many will want to revisit the movie when it comes on OTT. But here lies the catch.
All the previous films from the Spy Universe are streaming on Prime Video, but War 2 will release on Netflix after its theatrical run. This is a surprising move, and from what it looks like, Netflix may have paid a higher price to grab the digital rights. While that’s a good business deal, it creates a problem for fans who want to enjoy the franchise as one whole package.
When you’re building a universe of films, it makes sense to keep them all in one place so viewers can easily watch them in sequence. But now, people who want to catch the entire Spy Universe will have to switch platforms, which can feel inconvenient and even break the flow. For casual viewers, this may not matter much, but for fans already interested in or willing to get into YRF’s spy universe, it can be frustrating.
There’s no doubt War 2 will get strong viewership on Netflix thanks to its massive star power. But in the bigger picture, separating it from the rest of the Spy Universe might backfire. A franchise grows stronger when it stays connected, and in this case, the decision to split it could leave audiences a little disappointed.
