1. The Invisible Guest (2016)

Remember Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Badla’? It was the official remake of this very Spanish film with just the gender reversal of the lead actors. The story follows a young businessman who mysteriously ends up waking next to her dead lover in a locked hotel room. He hires a reputed lawyer to defend his case, and they work overnight to find out what happened.

2. Mirage (2018) –

Another one of Orial Paulo’s outstanding works, this one is a mystery-thriller that involves a glitch in the time-space continuum. This allows a woman to travel back 25 years where she saves the life of a young boy. But this somehow results in the disappearance of her daughter. How the mother tries to correct all this forms the crux of the film’s story.

3. The Platform (2019) –
(Spanish: El Hoyo)
Now this sci-fi horror-thriller is based on a very interesting concept where the story is set in a futuristic prison which is a large, tower-style “Vertical Self-Management Center”. The inmates are switched randomly every month and are fed via a platform which, initially filled with food at the top floor, gradually descends through the tower’s levels. This ultimately is bound to lead to a rebellion with people on the lower levels getting leftovers and some getting nothing.

4.The Fury Of A Patient Man (2016)

Based on the 2006 non-fiction book ‘Paesa, el espía de las mil caras’ by Manuel Cerdán, this Spanish thriller is about a former secret service agent who after getting betrayed by the government he once served, plots a revenge plan by stealing money from a corrupt public official who has embezzled millions of dollars.

6. The Bar (2017) –

This one is a mix of black comedy and thriller. A group of strangers get stuck in a bar in Madrid after witnessing a murder and soon realise they have come in contact with a deadly virus. They later get the vaccine which is less than what’s required, leading to panic kicking in and people dying.

7. The Invisible Guardian (2017) –
(Spanish: El guardián invisible)
Based on the eponymous novel by Dolores Redondo, this is the first part of the Baztan trilogy. The story follows an FBI trained cop who returns to her Navarre hometown to find a serial killer that targets teens. While doing so she also has to fight her past demons that keep returning. The other two in the trilogy, also available on Netflix are : The Legacy Of The Bones and Offering To The Storm.

8. The Occupant (2020) –
