January is an exceptionally busy month on Indian OTT. It seems as if the floodgates have opened up, to shower a deluge of Indian films on streaming platforms. A gazillion Indian films are set to release on all the top OTT platforms in India.
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus Hotstar and ZEE5 have captured the bulk of buzzy films for post-theatrical release on their platforms. But there are so many films releasing on OTT soon that it’s quite a task to keep track of them all.
That is the reason why we at Binged have compiled all upcoming Indian films releasing on OTT in one single list. Bookmark this list, to use as a handy guide for you to refer to and instantly know which movie is streaming where and on what date.
We will update this list as new titles are added to the slate of Indian films releasing on OTT.
Here goes –
1. 36 Farmhouse – Hindi film, ZEE5, 21st January
‘36 Farmhouse‘ is a comedy and suspense drama, set in the backdrop of a lavish farmhouse and the sizeable property of an ageing Maharani. As several interested parties hatch plans to usurp the lady’s property, a bigger and more suspenseful conspiracy comes to the fore. Written and directed by Subhash Ghai, starring Sanjay Mishra, Vijay Raaz, Amol Parashar, Flora Saini, Barkha Singh, Madhuri Bhatia, and Ashwini Kalsekar, among others.
2. Bachelor – Tamil film, SonyLIV, 21st January
Bachelor is a romantic drama that centres on a young man with behavioural issues who gets into a live-in relationship with a modern, free-spirited girl. Directed by debutant director, Sathish Selvakumar, the film stars G. V. Prakash Kumar and Divyabharathi.
3. Shyam Singha Roy – Telugu film, Netflix, 21st January
Shyam Singha Roy is a period drama cum contemporary romance set in two eras – the present times and the Kolkata of 1969. Nani plays the dual role of Telugu film director Vasu, and Bengali writer and revolutionary, Shyam Singha Roy. The film is directed by Rahul Sankrityan, and stars Sai Pallavi and Krithi Shetty as the female leads.
4. Akhanda – Telugu film, Disney Plus Hotstar, 21st January
Akhanda is an action drama with fantasy and supernatural elements. It is directed by Boyapati Srinu. The film features Nandamuri Balakrishna in a double role, along with an ensemble cast of Pragya Jaiswal, Jagapathi Babu, Srikanth, Nithin Mehta, Poorna, Subbaraju, Avinash, Sravan, Prabhakar, Deshna Javaji and Viji Chandrasekhar
5. Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee – Tamil film, ZEE5, 21st January
Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee is a Tamil film, written and directed by Darbuka Siva, in his directorial debut. It features a relatively new cast and crew, and is a coming-of-age film, with a motivational message.
6. Bhoothakaalam – Malayalam film, SonyLIV, 21st January
Bhoothakaalam centres on Revathi, who plays mother to a disturbed young man, played by Shane Nigam. The loss of the man in their lives, her husband and his father, leads to far-reaching consequences for both of them. Spooky incidents take place in their lives, adding to the dread. Written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, co-written by Sreekumar Shreyas. Starring Revathi, Shane Nigam, Saiju Kurup, James Eliya, Athira Patel, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Valsala Menon, Manju Pathrose, and Riyaz Narmakala
7. Arjuna Phalguna – Telugu film, Aha Video, 26th January
Arjuna Phalguna is a rustic crime and comedy film directed by Teja Marni. The film stars Sree Vishnu and Amritha Aiyer in lead roles. A group of young uns, led by do-gooder Arjuna (Shri Vishnu), lands a windfall of cash, and hopes to resolve the financial woes of their village folk. But a misfortune hits their plans.
8. Badava Rascal – Kannada Film, Voot Select, 26th January
Dhananjaya plays the son of an autorickshaw driver, who falls in love with the daughter of a rich politician (Amrutha Iyengar). A tragic incident causes the breakup of the couple, after which the young man must win back her love with the help of his friends. Directed by Shankar Guru. Also stars Rangayana Raghu, Tara, Sparsha Rekha, Nagabhushan, Poornachandra and Maasthi Manju.
9. Bro Daddy – Malayalam film, Disney Plus Hotstar, 26th January
Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal star as a chilled out father-son duo that rabble-rouse and think up new ways to create mischief. Bro Daddy is produced by Antony Perumbavoor through Aashirvad Cinemas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, under his banner Prithviraj Productions. Prithviraj Sukumaran is also directing the film. Also starring Meena, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Unni Mukundan, Lalu Alex, Murali Gopy, Kaniha and Soubin Shahir.
10. Bony – Bengali film, Hoichoi TV, 26th January
Bony is a Bengali sci-fi thriller film, directed by Parambrata Chatterjee, and starring Koel Mullick, Anjan Dutt, and Chatterjee. Adapted from the eponymous novel by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay. A Bengali couple settled in Milan has a newborn son Bony with special powers. An America-born Bangladeshi on the run scientist, framed by the government with suspected links to terrorism, is looking for the couple and their newborn. He thinks they have answers to his questions.
There are several other films that we hoped would set 26th January as their direct to OTT release dates. But as of now, it does not seem likely. Primary among those are Dhanush’s crime-busting drama, ‘Maaran’, and Vikram and Dhruv Vikram’s Mahaan.
