With December finally arriving, the Malayalam film industry is gearing up for end-of-the-year releases, especially after theatres reopened almost a month ago. Since ‘Kurup‘ has proven that Malayalam films still have a market in theatres all around the world, more and more Malayalam films are preparing to be released in cinema halls. While this will inevitably cause a decrease in the number of online Malayalam releases for a time, we are sure that there will be plenty of Malayalam direct-to-OTT releases in the future. But for the next month, most of the Malayalam releases are going to be in theatres – so here are 4 Malayalam films you should be on the lookout for:
Muddy
The first film on this list is also India’s first offroad mudrace feature (at least, that’s what the promos are saying). Know more about it, in the trailer below:
This relatively small scale film will be making its way to theatres on December 10th 2021, so be ready for this action-packed movie when it drops next week.
Ajagajantharam
This highly anticipated “Pepe” lead film is releasing late, with the film expected to release back in October, when theatres in Kerala reopened. Still, better late than never. This action-thriller feature will drop in theatres on 23rd December 2021 – learn more about it in the trailer below:
Minnal Murali
The only film on this list to be a direct-to-OTT, Minnal Murali is also the first Malayalam superhero movie. Many have been waiting for this movie since 2019, so this film is arguably the most anticipated Malayalam movie on this list. It will premiere on Netflix on 24th December 2021. Thuramukham
This Nivin Pauly film has had to postpone its release thrice due to the coronavirus pandemic and for a time, it looked like the film was going to release directly for streaming. But now, after theatres have reopened in Kerala, it looks like the film is finally making its way to theatres. The film will premiere in theatres on December 24th 2021. Check out the trailer below:
