1. Qarib Qarib Single (2017)

Qarib Qarib SingleQarib Qarib Single is a heart-warming romantic comedy film directed by Tanuja Chandra (Director – Dushman, Sangharsh). The story centers around two diverse personalities. One is a lovelorn widow named Jaya (Parvathy Thiruvothu) and the other is a carefree and happy-go-lucky person Yogi.

They meet through an online dating app. When Yogi brags about his girlfriends and that they still love him, Jaya challenges him and the duo undertakes an amusing inter-state journey. Their misadventures and comical chemistry form the rest of the film’s plot.

2. Chameli (2003)

ChameliAn affluent and lonely investment banker (Rahul Bose) is stuck in a red-light area when his car breaks down on a stormy night. That’s where he meets a prostitute called Chameli (Kareena Kapoor). Initially apprehensive to interact with her, they gradually develop an endearing bond. After a series of incidents that happen over the night, they get through all of it together and begin to empathize with each other’s lives.

3. The Good Liar (2019)

The Good LiarAn experienced and shrewd conman (Ian McKellen), by a lucky chance, finds his next target in an affluent widow and former Oxford professor (Helen Mirren). The lonely woman’s emotional state and the substantial savings in her bank account attract the greedy swindler. His sole intention is to defraud her of all her savings. What initially appears to be a cakewalk for the veteran fraudster eventually proves to be a much tougher con-job than what he had anticipated.

4. Arrival (2016)

ArrivalThe science-fiction slow-burner film was helmed by Denis Villeneuve, who is known for directing the remake of Ridley Scott’s cult sci-fi film ‘Blade Runner’. The film features Amy Adams as a linguistic expert, who is enlisted by the US Army to somehow find a way to communicate with the aliens by using her distinctive skills. She must complete the mission in a race against time, in order to decode the global mystery. The film also starred Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker.

5. Dhobi Ghat (2010)

Dhobi GhatThe offbeat film narrates the intersecting storylines of an introverted painter Arun (Aamir Khan), a photography enthusiast Shai (Monica Dogra), a washerman Munna (Prateik Babbar), and a simple homemaker Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra).

Arun moves into a flat whose previous occupant was Yasmin. Shai, on the other hand, gets obsessed with Arun’s life and makes friends with Munna. Meanwhile, Arun watches a series of video messages recorded by Yasmin with a disturbing revelation. How various incidents connect the lives of these characters forms the film’s primary premise.
