“Last Film Show” or “Chhello Show” is India’s official entry to the Oscars. Years after years, India has sent rooted stories which always go above the head of the jury. Thus this time, the best bet was certainly SS Rajamouli‘s RRR which is a kind of cinematic experience that nobody has ever seen before.
Regardless, RRR is running its separate campaign for the awards but there is something terribly weird in the campaign of Chhello Show.
The makers must understand that the Indian masses are already disappointed with RRR not being the official entry of India to the Academy awards. With this condition, it is a great step for the makers that they are screening the movie for ₹95 only. This way, the Indian mass would get to know what The Last Show offers.
Also, the makers are campaigning for the Oscars where they would screen the film at various places in many international dubbings.
Producer Dheer Momaya said in an interview: “It’s been dubbed and localized in so many languages, including Spanish, German, Russian, Hebrew, we just felt that, if it can travel across the world, why can’t it travel across India? It’s made the larger journey and now there’s a large journey to be made within the country.”
The film will be released in its original Gujarati version all across India and a Hindi-language dubbed version will be made available when more people would ask for it.
Now, if you notice then the makers are less worried about the response of the Indian masses at this moment. It may be better economically at the moment but at the same time, weird too.
What if the movie wins an Oscar?
Will the Indian mass know enough about the film to rejoice about it?
Shouldn’t it be screened all across India for people to convince that not only RRR but The Last Show was also a worthy contender for the Oscar run?
These are the questions meant for the makers of the film with a rare hope that they would answer.
