Netflix released the first trailer for the much anticipated Dhanush starrer “Jagame Thandhiram” and ever since that social media has been abuzz with all the clips, photos and praises for Dhanush’s “Suruli” and the whole trailer in entirety. Jagame Thandhiram is set to release on the 18th of June and fans have started the countdown for the D-Day.
Jagame Thandhiram by far is one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year, the movie has been in news for a very long time and definitely for all the right reasons. The hero-director combo was one of the much awaited and people betted on it that it will be a banger of a movie when released. The movie was set for a release last year in 2020 but for obvious reasons, the movie was delayed.
It was in 2021 the news came in that Dhanush’s movie is eyeing a February release and that too a theatrical one, as theatres were opening up. Also, Vijay’s Master being one of the first movies in 2021 to release theatrically, brought in a lot of people to theatres, so the makers were sure that Jagame Thandhiram in theatres will be an instant hit.
But, things changed instantly, as news for Netflix buying the movie for an OTT release came in. It was later confirmed that Netflix in fact has got the deal but what came in as a shock for many is when Dhanush himself shared his thoughts on the movie going for an OTT release. He mentioned how he was taken aback and almost felt like he had no idea what was going on. He still hoped that the makers would go for a theatrical release, because he knew this movie could help bring the theatre business back in action once everything subsides.
Now, when the trailer of the film released, Dhanush again took to his social media platform and mentioned, “What would have been a great theatrical experience coming to Netflix. Nevertheless, hope you all enjoy Jagame Thandhiram and Suruli ”.

It is evident from this that he still wanted the movie to go for a theatrical release and maybe later for an OTT release. Stars like Dhanush have received lots of love and their movies have been grand successes all thanks to theatres, as movies in theatres can be literally watched by anyone and everyone.
Dhanush has been over the time, very vocal about his movies going in for theatrical releases and Jagame Thandhiram, which has such a budget, such a cast was already meant for being a hit and he definitely expected more from it. Dhanush was even seen joining the online campaign that was started by his fans to bring Jagame Thandhiram to theatres.
It would have been a grand success in theatres, without doubt but we also believe with OTT, even though it limits access to many people, the movie will garner a lot of attention and definitely has the possibility of becoming a blockbuster hit.
The movie along with Dhanush stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, James Cosmo along with Joju George and Kalaiyarasan. The movie has been directed by Karthik Subbaraj and S. Sashikanth and Ramchandra of YNOT Studios along with Reliance Entertainment.
