The excitement around the release of Drishyam 2 on Amazon Prime Video has reached stratospheric proportions. The film has skipped theatres and opted for a direct to digital release on Amazon Prime Video. The excitement has led to one very important question – how many languages will Drishyam 2 be available in? Social media is agog with umpteen questions relating to this – Will Drishyam 2 be available with in its Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada dubbed versions?

Drishyam 2 is one movie that audiences of every linguistic preference are waiting for breathlessly, irrespective of what language they are comfortable with – Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, and of course, Malayalam. Yes, Drishyam 2 has managed to cut across language barriers in the amount of excitement it has generated on social media.
And the reason for this language-agnostic excitement is also quite obvious. Drishyam 2 is the sequel to the 2013 movie Drishyam, which was a massive hit not only all across the country, but was highly appreciated on foreign shores too. It has been remade in four Indian languages, and also in Chinese.
Add to this is the fact that the events of Drishyam 2 take place six years after the events of Drishyam, which had ended on a breathtaking cliffhanger. It is quite natural that everyone – just about everyone – wants to know what twists and turns will take place in Georgekutty’s (Mohanlal) life after the fateful events of Drishyam.
Which brings us to the all-important question – what languages will Drishyam 2 be available in at launch on Amazon Prime Video? Well, Drishyam 2 will be available only in the original Malayalam audio upon launch. Disappointing, we know, but that’s just how things roll. Along with the Malayalam audio, the film will be available with subtitles in English, for the convenience of all other language-speakers, besides Malayalam.
The reason for Drishyam 2 being available only in one language audio is the lack of time. The film has just completed its post-production work. Amazon Prime Video is in a hurry to stream the film as soon as possible, to make up for the delay of The Family Man 2, which has been pushed to a summer release. To add to it, the Tandav controversy has hit the streamer hard. No wonder it wants to stream Drishyam 2 quickly, even if other languages audio is not available yet.
As is the norm with Amazon Prime Video, the OTT platform will definitely stream Drishyam 2 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions, but at a much later date. One month later is what we’re guessing, based on past Amazon Prime Video releases.
