The much-touted first look deal between Netflix and Sony Pictures has set into motion its first production. It is a film adaptation of the classic D.H. Lawrence novel, ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’. The film is a joint production by Sony’s 3000 Pictures and Netflix. Lady Chatterley’s Lover is being produced by Academy Award nominee Laurence Mark (Jerry McGuire, Dreamgirls, The Greatest Showman) and Academy Award nominees Pete Czernin & Graham Broadbent of Blueprint Pictures (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).
Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (The Mustang, Mrs. America) will direct the film, out of a screenplay adapted by Academy Award nominee David Magee (Finding Neverland, Life of Pi) from D.H. Lawrence’s novel of the same name.
The first actor to be signed on for ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ was Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin, who earned fame for her uncanny portrayal of a young Princess Diana in Netflix’s ‘The Crown’. Now today, BAFTA Rising Star Award Winner Jack O’Connell (‘71, Unbroken, Godless) and Matthew Duckett have joined the cast of the film. Corrin will play Lady Chatterley in this female-focused re-telling of the classic novel.
This will be the first film to be produced under the new partnership where Sony Pictures will offer Netflix a first look at any films it intends to make for streaming. The official Netflix synopsis for ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ states,
“Based on the classic D.H. Lawrence novel, a story well ahead of its time, we follow the life of Lady Chatterley, a woman born to a life of wealth and privilege, who soon finds herself married to a man that she eventually falls out of love with. Lady Chatterley engages in a torrid affair with a gamekeeper on their English estate, discovering more desire and intimacy than she thought possible. When she realizes that she has fallen heart and soul, she breaks all traditions of the day and seeks happiness with the man she loves.”
Principal photography for ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ is set to begin in the UK this fall.
