Nominations for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced this evening by Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson.
As expected, Netflix swept the nominations with several of its prestigious original shows and movies winning nominations. Ozark, The Crown, Ratched, The Queen’s Gambit, Better Call Saul, Schitt’s Creek, Unorthodox, and movies Mank, The Trial Of The Chicago 7, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, among others scored nominations.
HBO’s Undoing bagged nominations in all the major categories for TV Limited Series. I Know This Much Is True and Mrs America scored nominations too.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm won the day for Amazon Prime Video, winning prime nominations for the Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category. One Night In Miami and Sound Of Metal won noms too, the latter winning a Best Actor in a TV film for Riz Ahmed.
Hulu and BBC One’s Normal People won nominations for Best Limited Series, as well as Best Actress in a limited series for its lead, Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Disney Plus won a few nominations for Hamilton, Soul and The Mandalorian, though not as many as it would have liked.
Nomadland, as expected, won a clutch of nominations, and is prime contender to win the Golden Globe for its nominated categories.
HBOMax won its first nominations for its hit show The Flight Attendant, while Apple TV Plus won nominations for Ted Lasso and Wolfwalkers.
Interestingly, the three women directors have been nominated for the Best Director for a Motion Picture – Regina King for One Night in Miami, Chloé Zhao for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman.
The Golden Globes 2021 will take place virtually on 28th February, and will be presented by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, their fourth time doing the honours.
