Two big films hit Netflix recently. HIT: The Third Case and Retro. Both had massive stars in the lead. While HIT, starring Nani, is enjoying a dream run on Netflix, Retro, led by superstar Suriya, is not finding the same success.
People are buzzing about HIT. It’s trending, being talked about, the positive and the negative, and most importantly, it’s being watched. Nani’s intense performance has clearly clicked with viewers. On the other hand, Retro seems to have missed the mark. Despite Suriya’s charm and a strong production team, the film isn’t gaining that much traction. This data is coming from FlixPatrol which is a reliable third party website when it comes to tracking data on OTT.
It’s surprising, especially considering how Suriya’s star power. His films are usually hits across languages, if you just remember Jai Bhim. But Retro seems like it has gone under the shadow of HIT3’s success.
Is it the fault of the film or the platform and promotion? Suriya is a brilliant actor with a strong fanbase, and he deserves projects that match his talent. With Viwers hunfry for content, it should be easy for an actor as massive as Suriya to pull the crowds.
But in the end, it’s all about connecting with the audience. And this time, Nani seems to have done that better. Let’s hope Suriya bounces back stronger if he plays it right.
