Disney Plus has reached a massive landmark and that too in quick time. The streaming service has zoomed past 50 million subscribers according to the latest update given by the top executives.
It is speedy progress as Disney Plus was launched in November last year. The numbers are higher than what the people at Disney had predicted around the launch. There are a couple of reasons for the spike. The most obvious one is the lockdown due to coronavirus crisis. It has shown a drastic rise in the viewing of digital content.
The second one involves here, and the executives acknowledge the same. Disney Plus launched in conjunction with Hotstar in India. It made it possible to have readymade access to a large subscriber base. The Indian launch alone added 8 million to the overall count of 50 million.
Apart from the US and India, Disney Plus has been launched in many European nations in the past few months. It has also given a decent addition, overall.
On the whole, the start for Disney Plus is terrific. It is racing to occupy the third spot behind the market leaders, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. With a massive line up of original series and movies planned , Disney Plus is turning out to be the giant everyone anticipated.
