Ever since S.S. Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’ released in theatres worldwide in March, the film has garnered a phenomenal response from audiences and critics across the globe. The visually stunning movie has grossed over a whopping Rs.1100 crores at the box office.
The Hindi version of ‘RRR’ recently started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform globally and it was listed as amongst the top ten non-English films globally with more than seven million viewing hours. Currently, it’s on the top 10 films list in 14 countries on Netflix.
RRR’s seemingly never-ending streak of feats continue as the film is placed right on top as one of the best movies streaming on Netflix, as per the reputed television and OTT centric international digital portal ‘TV Guide’ (see link below).
The recently published TV Guide listicle houses a list of the 57 best recent movies to watch on Netflix. The renowned digital media brand has given ‘RRR’ a special mention on its website by terming the international blockbuster as “a must-watch three-hour Indian action epic that has to be seen to be believed.”
This reinstates the fact that ‘RRR’ has carved a special place amongst movie buffs in the US, where the film is set to be re-released in more than 100 theatres on 1st June. RRR, perhaps after Aamir Khan’s Oscar-nominated movie ‘Lagaan’, is probably the first Indian film to get such a massive and unanimously positive response from Hollywood media and US-based viewers. Especially in the way it connects with them through a universally acceptable theme and a solid emotional core.
Some time back, even S.S. Rajamouli had himself said that his previous film ‘Baahubali’ had received ‘some’ appreciation from a segment of Western audience but with ‘RRR’, a lot of viewers from the UK and the US have liked the film and are discussing it amongst themselves.
Now, it remains to be seen what kind of response RRR’s theatrical re-release in the US will get in the coming week. Although, considering the immense buzz and widespread admiration there, it’s a given that American movie buffs are going to flock to the theatres to witness the action extravaganza the way it’s meant to be seen – on the biggest screen possible.
Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).
