The year 2021 has, until now, witnessed many direct-to-OTT film releases owing to the pandemic induced lockdown situation in most parts of the country. Some of this year’s releases also found their spot on the coveted Top 250 Indian Movies IMDb list.
While the rating-wise top spot is deservedly shared by two diverse yet brilliant films namely the Mohanlal starrer mystery film ‘Drishyam 2’ and the period boxing movie ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’. On the other hand, there are also a few surprise entries in this regard.
Interestingly, out of the total of nine Indian titles for the year 2021, four movies came from the Malayalam film industry. And it did not come as a surprise because there is no doubt that the Malayalam film industry has been churning out some quality content especially in the year 2021. Out of the remaining five films, three belong to the Bollywood film industry while the two other titles are Tamil language movies.
Moreover, from casting point of view, Fahadh Faasil is the only actor whose two movies are placed on the reputed IMDb list. So, in this aspect too, the Malayalam film industry emerges victorious. So, it seems that Amazon must be doing something right when it comes to acquiring titles. And ‘Drishyam 2’ is the highest-ranked film on the Top 250 Indian Movies IMDb list from the year 2021 (until now) at the time of writing this article.
