After working in multiple Indian film industries, predominantly in the Malayalam one for over 40 years, Mohanlal announced that he would finally direct a film, back in 2019. The movie titled ‘Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure’ will be a 3D fantasy children’s film written by Jijo Punnoose – the director of India’s first 3D film, ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’. The movie has now gone to the floor for filming and will be shot in multiple locations in India and Europe.
Prominent celebrities from Mollywood, including actors Mammootty, Prithviraj, filmmakers Priyadarshan, Sibi Malayil, and producer Antony Perumbavoor attended the film’s pooja event, which commenced earlier today, on 24th March 2021 and even Big B, Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan himself came out and wished Mohanlal with “success, prosperity and greater glory”. Mohanlal acknowledged the online message and expressed his gratitude by replying to Big B’s post – saying that he is grateful for the megastar actor’s blessings.
‘Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure’ is a film based on the Portuguese mythical figure named Barroz who was the guardian of the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. One day, a kid comes searching for Barroz, claiming to be a true descendant of D’Gama. Mohanlal is expected to play the lead character and the titular Barroz. The film will be shot in Kochi, Goa, Dehradun and Portugal and the 3D movie will be set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, Africa and India.
The film will feature superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran and Pratap Pothan in prominent roles, but the movie also managed to rope in two famous Spanish actors Rafael Amargo (who will portray D’Gama) and actress Paz Vega who is known for ‘Spanglish’ and ‘Rambo: Last Blood’. Child actress Shayla McCaffrey also joins this renowned cast of the Malayalam children’s fantasy feature.
With this all-star cast and a story from a brilliant script-writer, we can’t wait for the first look of the movie. Hopefully we will get quick updates. For now, we will just have to wait and see.
