Fans of Mohanlal’s path-breaking Drishyam franchise will know that the original Drishyam was remade in four other Indian languages: ‘Drishya’ in Kannada, ‘Drushyam’ in Telugu, ‘Papanasam’ in Tamil and ‘Drishyam’ in Hindi. It was also remade in two foreign languages – in Sinhalase as ‘Dharmayuddhaya’ and in Chinese as ‘Sheep Without a Shepherd’. Now, the Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph film is getting a new remake in yet another foreign language – Indonesian!
The news was shared this evening by Aashirvad Cinemas, the producers of the original Malayalam language Drishyam. There is no other information available yet, on the cast and crew of the Indonesian film.
The original Malayalam film Drishyam released in 2013, and became an instant blockbuster hit. The stunning twists and turns in the film, along with Mohanlal’s stellar performance, excited fans of the actor Mohanlal no end. Praise for Jeethu Joseph’s intelligent writing and creative plot was almost universal and absolute.
Drishyam stars Mohanlal, Meena, Esther Anil, Asha Sarath, Roshan Basheer and Neeraj Madhav, amongst others, in pivotal roles. All its multiple-language remakes were hits too. Drishyam 2, the Malayalam sequel to the original film, became a blockbuster hit even as a direct to digital release on Amazon Prime Video.
Drishyam is most likely the only Indian film to be remade in four Indian languages and three foreign languages, now that the Indonesian remake is on course.
