Netflix India’s Top 10 Films & Series to Watch in the 20th June Week

For Netflix India’s top ten films list, the top-ranked title has been bagged by the superhero blockbuster ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ starring Tom Holland in the lead role. While the second spot is held by the Mammootty starrer mystery thriller ‘CBI 5: The Brain’. And the campus comedy movie ‘Don’ starring Sivakarthikeyan currently holds the third place.

On the Netflix top ten TV shows front, this week’s top spot has been bagged by Imtiaz Ali’s crime drama ‘She’. While on the second and third spots are the globally admired supernatural horror series ‘Stranger Things’ followed by the British crime drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ starring Cillian Murphy.

Here’s the full list of the top ten movies and TV shows on Netflix India this week:

TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK

10. Interceptor

The military action drama revolves around a hardened Army Captain JJ Collins, who races against time to prevent a deadly attack masterminded by a former military intelligence officer. She must use her very particular set of skills against the terrorists while stationed at the remote base in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

9. Jana Gana Mana

The socio-political vigilante thriller revolves around an investigation headed by an upright cop ACP Sajjan (Suraj Venjaramoodu) into the alleged rape and murder of a popular college professor. The film changes gears in the second half as it delves into the courtroom genre with Adv. Aravind Swaminathan (Prithviraj Sukumaran) taking the centre stage. The story portrays the idea of law and justice from the contrasting perspectives of the two protagonists – the cop and the lawyer.

8. Raw (Hindi)

The action-comedy movie follows a former RAW agent Veera Raghavan (played by Vijay), who finds himself in the midst of a terrorist hijacking situation while trapped inside a shopping mall in Chennai. He makes it his mission to use his skills to foil the hijacking attempt and rescue the hostages while dealing with his own past demons.

7. Jersey

The Shahid Kapoor starrer cricket-based drama is a remake of the 2019 Telugu movie of the same name. The film is an underdog story that revolves around a gifted former cricketer Arjun, who decides to make a comeback at 36, in order to fulfill his son’s simple wish of buying a jersey. How he desperately tries to revive his sports career despite his wife’s resistance and against all odds, forms the film’s underlying premise.

6. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is somewhat based on Hussain Zaidi’s 2011 non-fiction crime novel ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ (a chapter). The film follows the story of a woman named Ganga Harjivandas from Kathiawad who belongs to a wealthy family. But, after being sold to a brothel in Kamathipura, she eventually transforms into a formidable power to reckon with and becomes a madame in a red-light area.

5. Spiderhead

The action-drama film has been helmed by Joseph Kosinski, whose recent directorial ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ became a huge blockbuster. The film’s plot is based on George Saunders’ short story ‘Escape from Spiderhead’ and is set in a near future prison where inmates are given a chance to reduce their sentences. They can do so by volunteering to be given mid-altering drugs under the supervision of the genius Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth). The story takes a turn after an inmate named Jeff becomes the test subject for a drug which can develop feelings of love.

4. RRR (Hindi)

Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the blockbuster period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).

3. Don

The campus comedy movie features Sivakarthikeyan in the role of a carefree engineering college student who comes from an ordinary middle-class family with a stern father. While figuring out his ambition in college, he must deal with another problem – the head of the college discipline committee Bhoominathan.

2. CBI 5: The Brain

It’s the fifth movie of the CBI film series featuring veteran actor Mammootty in the lead role of CBI officer Sethurama Iyer. The movie’s plot focuses on how the super cop approaches a tough case of basket killings whose victims are several people like a cardiologist, a cop, a minister, etc. who are somehow connected with each other.

1. Spider-Man: No Way Home

It’s a direct sequel to Tom Holland’s solo Spider-Man movies namely ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’. The film’s underlying plot follows a botched-up magical spell by Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) while attempting to conceal Peter Parker’s secret identity as Spider-Man from the public. But Peter Parker must deal with the repercussions when the spell eventually results in various supervillains (Electro, Green Goblin, Sandman, The Lizard, and Doc Ock) from alternate realities somehow entering his universe.

10. Friends

‘Friends’ is a universally acclaimed sitcom show that revolves around the six friends played by Jennifer Anniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry living together in New York City and the vicissitudes in their interpersonal relationships formed the show’s central theme.

9. The Lincoln Lawyer

The ten-part legal drama series follows an idealistic but troubled LA-based criminal defense lawyer Mickey Haller (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), who runs his office from inside his Lincoln Town Car. He grabs an opportunity to revive his career after he unexpectedly gets a high-profile murder case. The series is based on Michael Connelly’s book ‘The Brass Verdict’.

8. Money Heist

The show follows a hostage situation plotline masterminded by an enigmatic genius and his attempt to pull off a virtually impossible heist with the help of his skilled team.

7. Business Proposal

The South Korean show follows the story of a woman named Shin Ha-ri, who goes out on a blind date instead of her unwilling friend. However, by a twist of fate, the prospective partner she meets turns out to be the CEO of the company where she works.

6. Squid Game

The show follows the story of 456 people, who have somewhat failed in their lives, and they are invited to participate in a dangerous survival game called ‘Squid Game’. The winner of the game will take home a huge amount.

5. First Kill

The supernatural teen drama show follows a young Vampire named Juliette who is preparing herself for her first kill in order to cement her place in her formidable Vampire family. She targets a girl named Calliope as her first victim. But the latter turns out to be a Vampire hunter who belongs to a renowned family of Vampire killers, and she is also gearing up for her first kill.

4. All of Us Are Dead

Based on the webtoon ‘Now at Our School’, it’s a South Korean show where high school students are forced to fight a zombie outbreak in a battle for survival, in order to avoid becoming the infected creatures themselves. Killing or getting killed are the only two options left for them.

3. Peaky Blinders

The series, set in 1900s Birmingham (England), takes place after the events of the first World War. It follows the story of the titular gang that is fiercely led by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). On the trail of the ambitious and ruthless gangster of the Shelby family, is the chief inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill), who is entrusted with getting rid of the criminal activities in the city of Birmingham. The sixth season is set from December 1933 onwards and currently holds 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

2. Stranger Things

The latest season of the sci-fi horror series follows the aftereffects of the devastating Battle of Starcourt at the Hawkins town in Indiana. The show’s young protagonists are now living separately and trying to move on in their lives. At this juncture, a long-buried, supernatural threat that connects everything, emerges on Earth and the Upside Down. The fourth season’s first volume comprising seven episodes was released on 27th May while the second volume with two episodes will come out on 1st July.

1. She

The show’s plot revolves around a female police constable named Bhumika (played by Aaditi Pohankar), who is sent on an undercover mission to expose a drug cartel. Along the way and while dealing with her personal problems, the poor cop learns how her sexuality can be a game changer in her life. Its second season started streaming on Netflix from 17th June.
