Netflix upcoming web series, ‘Sweet Tooth‘ is premiering on the first week of June. The trailer for this fantasy drama series was dropped an hour back and it is hauntingly beautiful. Which is weird because, since this TV series is adapted from the DC comics of the same name and many have called this limited comic book series – a cross between ‘Mad Max’ and ‘Bambi’. If that is true though, then the trailer should be giving us a very different vibe. Check it out at the end of this article.
The trailer for this web series starts off with an image of a moss-covered satellite station, giving us the impression that the satellite station has not been in use for some time. It turns out we are witnessing the future and most of the world has been wiped out by a mysterious disease. At the same time, nearly every child born is a hybrid between a human and an animal. Towards the beginning of the trailer, we are shown the birth of a human-deer hybrid baby boy and follow him throughout the series (at least that’s what the trailer implies).
“No one knew which came first – the hybrids or the virus”. This is one of the first lines of the trailer and it makes a huge impression upon the viewer, giving us an idea of this apocalypse. The young “deer-boy” grows up and he is named “Sweet Tooth”. Young Sweet Tooth travels on foot along with his father to find a safe place. Due to the birth of hybrids, many believe that they are either the cause of the virus or the answer to it. So bounty hunters go looking for children like Sweet Tooth for experimentation or “revenge”. Which is why Sweet Tooth and his father are looking for a safe place to live/ survive.
The tone of the trailer is innocent so far. We expect Sweet Tooth to go through a harsh journey and the video montage that is shown on the trailer shows up the various obstacles he faces in his path for survival. Produced by Robert Downey Junior and his wife Susan Downey and narrated by James Brolin, we expect the TV series to be faithful to the source material – which means crazy gore and nutty action, “Mad Max-style” (We think). For now, we will have to wait and see till the Netflix original series drops.
