1. Vaastav (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

Vaastav was Mahesh Manjrekar’s take on the Mumbai underworld. The film follows the story of a chawl resident Raghu (Sanjay Dutt) who runs a food stall with his friend Dedh Footiya.

One day, Raghu inadvertently kills the brother of a local gangster. The incident causes the two friends to unwillingly get involved with the underworld. Eventually Raghu himself transforms into a dreaded gangster.

This Anurag Basu’s directorial venture was Kangana Ranaut’s Bollywood debut film. A bar dancer Simran’s (Kangana Ranaut) chance encounter with a career criminal Daya (Shiney Ahuja) gradually results in a romantic relationship.

However, by a turn of events, they are forced to relocate while Daya is on the run from the cops. That’s when Simran meets another man (Emran Hashmi) and falls for him. The story moves forward when Daya comes back and finds out about his lover’s affair.

3. Ab Tak Chappan (Streaming on SonyLIV)

This songless film revolved around the life of a police officer and encounter specialist (played by Nana Patekar), whose life turns upside down after an unfortunate incident. The rest of the film revolves around how the upright cop takes revenge on the man who is responsible for his situation.

A must-watch film for its adept direction and Nana Patekar’s effortless act. This film was the directorial debut of Shimit Amin, who subsequently directed the blockbuster sports film ‘Chak De! India’ starring Shah Rukh Khan.

4. D-Day (Streaming on YouTube)

Undercover agent Wali Khan (Irrfan Khan) was sent to Pakistan by RAW to keep track of the Most Wanted Man in India Goldman (Rishi Kapoor). After nine years, a golden opportunity is detected by the Intelligence Agency when it learns about the wedding function of Goldman’s son that is to be held in Pakistan.

A specialist team is hurriedly assembled that comprises a highly-skilled Indian Armed Forces person (Arjun Rampal) alongside an explosives expert (Huma Qureshi). The team is sent for a deadly mission to Pakistan to bring back the dreaded criminal to deliver long-awaited justice.

5. Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

As the title, suggests, the events of this Sudhir Mishra film happen over a period of one night. When a cheating husband (Nirmal Pandey) unintentionally insults a gangster called Raman Bhai (Ashish Vidyarthi), he runs for his life. Another parallel plotline follows the gang rivalry between Raman Bhai and another criminal Vilas (Saurabh Shukla). The storylines converge into an interesting climax.
