Shooting for Raj and DK‘s upcoming action-thriller series ‘Sunny’ has resumed in Goa. This is the second schedule for the Amazon Prime Video series, starring Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi and Raashii Khanna in the lead. Shahid Kapoor, earlier yesterday took to Instagram and gave fans a glimpse of his tattooed look for the series, which marks his digital debut, as he waited for his shot. “Waiting on set call me soon @rajanddk … cant wait to share the frame with @actorvijaysethupathi sorry @raashiikhanna I’ve got too used to having you around on set,” Shahid Kapoor wrote in the caption of his Instagram post, tagging his co-stars, Vijay Sethupathi and Raashii Khanna. Raj and DK, commented, “Shot ready! Let’s roll!”, whereas Raashii jokingly said, “Ghar ki murgi daal barabar (Familiarity breeds contempt)…! Anyway, everything is excused for @actorvijaysethupathi sir. I had similar emotions today..!! Ask @rajanddk”.
Actress Raashii also shared an update later last evening via her Instagram and Twitter handles with the caption, “Collaborating with my favorite human/actor for the third time, this time in Hindi..! Welcome to our set @VijaySethuOffl sir”. While Raashii has already shared screen space with Sethupathi in ‘Sangathamizhan’ and ‘Tughlaq Durbar’, this is the first time the actress will star with Shahid. This web series also marks Vijay Sethupathi’s debut in Bollywood.
This show is the third collaboration between Raj & DK and Amazon Prime Video after two extremely successful seasons of Manoj Bajpayee-lead ‘The Family Man’. ‘Sunny’ will see Shahid Kapoor as the protagonist, with actress Raashii cast opposite him and Vijay Sethupathi has been roped in to play the antagonist. While Shahid and Raashii have already shot for some parts when shooting began in February, Vijay Sethupathi has just joined the team and will begin shooting his parts for the series. Actor Amol Palekar is also said to be playing a prominent role in the show.
In an Instagram live session in June, Shahid mentioned that he was anxious to see how he would be received by the audience in a digital space. “I’m very nervous about making my digital debut because I really feel that actors who might have been liked and loved on the big screen, might or might not be appreciated on a digital platform,” he said. Futher, on the challenges of the OTT space, he said, “You can’t just be okay if people like you for a couple of hours. They need to be interested in your character, connect with you and you need to hold their attention for 9-10 episodes. I don’t think I’m experienced in that space. So it would be interesting to see how people react to me on that platform.”
It was reported earlier that Shahid Kapoor had asked for a fee of 40 crores to play his part in the series and Vijay Sethupathi’s remuneration is reportedly a whopping 55 crores! Currently, the makers are planning to span the series across 3 seasons.
On the work front, Shahid will be next seen in the sports drama film, ‘Jersey’. Helmed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, it is a remake of his 2019 Telugu film of the same name and also stars Pankaj Kapur and Mrunal Thakur. Besides that, he also has ‘Yoddha’ and ‘Farzi’ in the pipeline. Raashii Khanna, last seen in ‘Tughlaq Darbar’ with Sethupathi, has south films, ‘Pakka Commercial’, ‘Sardar’, ‘Aranmanai 3’, ‘Methavi’, ‘Bhramam’, and ‘Thank You’ in her kitty. As for Sethupathi, he will apparently be juggling between the web show and Sriram Radhavan’s next directorial, ‘Merry Christmas’ with Katrina Kaif. Currently awaiting the release of Netflix anthology series ‘Navarasa’ that will stream from 6th August, he will also be seen in Santosh Sivan’s ‘Mumbaikar’ alongside Vikrant Massey.
