SS Rajamouli’s RRR May Become The Highest Paid Movie For OTT, Here’s Why!

By Binged Bureau - Feb 07, 2021 @ 08:02 pm

SS Rajamouli’s upcoming mega movie “RRR” is one of the much awaited movies this year. It stars mega stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead roles, along with Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris and Ajay Devgn, who is slated to have a cameo in the movie. Earlier this year, the release date for the movie was revealed and it stated that the movie will be releasing on the 13th of October 2021. This was just the beginning of all the exciting news that was to follow afterwards. The movie is said to be inspired from the book, “Motorcycle Diaries” and portrays the lives of two freedom fighters, making it a period drama set in the 1900s.

Recently, Pinkvilla reported that the movie is getting an enormous amount for theatrical release rights from all over india. The movie is getting Rs. 348 crore offers for the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam movie rights. It already beat Bahubali 2, which earlier had collected Rs. 215 crore from the Southern states. The Hindi version will be released by AA Films and even that is getting approximately Rs. 100 crore for the theatrical release. Apart from that, the overseas rights have already been sold to Phars Films for a sum of Rs. 70 crore.

The movie even before it is released has offers that are close to Rs. 500 crore, which by far is the highest for any Southern movie and has already created a record before it releases. These are just the deals for theatrical release that too the pre release deals. Going by today’s trend, the movie for sure will drop on OTT at some point and going by the deals, one can only imagine how much the OTT rights will cost.

No doubt an OTT platform will have to pay way more than what they are being paid for theatrical releases. But the question is will an OTT platform go to such an extent? Our answer is why not? Yes, the movie might not drop on OTT as quickly as the others are being released at the moment. Considering the hype around the movie and how dearly awaited it is by everyone all around, the movie will take its time to come on OTT, but that doesn’t mean an OTT platform will miss the chance of streaming it.

The movie for sure will be one great cinematic experience and just like how Bahubali is still loved and watched even now, we are sure it will be the same for RRR too. This will give an edge to whoever gets the rights for the OTT release as the movie will definitely bring an influx of viewers to the platform whenever it is released. Fans from all over will be interested to know and watch and if someone by chance misses the opportunity of watching it in theatres, OTT will be their saviour whenever it releases.

With all these being said, RRR already has outdone itself and now everyone’s interest regarding the movie and what story the movie will tell has already piqued. October seems far away at this point but we are sure, the wait will be worth it.
