Young Telugu actor Suhas’s upcoming film, Family Drama is skipping theatrical release and premiering directly on OTT. The film’s direct to OTT rights were bagged by Sony Liv. The makers have announced that the trailer of the film will be out at 7 PM today. Family Drama’s OTT release date will be officially announced in the next few days. Well, the makers of Family Drama appear to have done the right thing by skipping theatrical release and opting for OTT.
The teaser of Family Drama which was unveiled a couple of months ago did not draw the best of responses from Telugu audiences. The teaser implied that Suhas played a notorious psycho in the film. It was very much evident that the film would be a dark and disturbing crime drama. So, it is safe to say that the Meher Tej directorial doesn’t necessarily cater to all sections of the audience.
Telugu audiences are not flocking the cinema halls like the way they used to in the past, owing to the obvious Covid transmission scare. It would be irrational to assume the masses, B and C center audience will step out in big numbers to watch a dark crime drama. So, there is very little scope for theatrical revenues. The makers of the Suhas starrer have assessed the situation very well and acted accordingly.
Moreover, the film is carrying little-to-no buzz. Taking all these factors into consideration, OTT seems to be the safest and the best option for Family Drama. The film is directed by Meher Tej and it has Chandini Chowdary, Viva Harsha, and others in important roles.
