Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Dave Bautista. And John Cena. All three were WWE heavyweights, who have now got successful acting careers ahead of them. With these three (semi-retired former) WWE superstars taking all the big roles that Hollywood has to offer, who will the next big WWE star to “bring the buzz” to “Tinsel Town”?
Hollywood has been cashing in heavily on the popularity of WWE superstars for decades now. Not counting the above three now-Hollywood heavyweights, former WWE superstars such as Steve Nash and ” Stone Cold” Steve Austin have also been part of huge Hollywood projects as well. But unlike the previously mentioned three, no other WWE superstar has reached the heights that they have achieved, yet. John Cena is part of two film franchises – Fast and Furious and the DCEU, Batista is part of the MCU and has acted in several other movies – including a Bond villain and Dwayne Johnson – the one to pave the path for them, has appeared on multiple films and film franchises. When you bring on a WWE superstar onto your film, you already have an active fanbase rooting for your film and willing to watch it. And Dwayne Johnson was at the top of his game in WWE during the mid-2000s and his popularity helped him land good roles in movies. And the rest is history.
All three aforementioned actors have one thing in abundance – Charisma. Be it in the ring or on the big screen, they ooze pure charisma. Their presence makes the show/ feature better and that has been hard to replicate even for regular actors. But like all actors, these wrestling superstars needed a start as well and they all got it from WWE studios.
This time, however, we think it will be a woman WWE superstar who will be the next Hollywood heavyweight – Ronda Rousey. She has appeared in the Fast and the Furious franchise as well as the Expendables series as well, giving her a head start above the rest of the WWE superstars. Paige- the English professional wrestler also has a hit movie based on her life called ‘Fighting with my family’. We will have to wait and see if either of them or another WWE superstar will make it big in Hollywood, anytime soon.
