The filmmakers of the Telugu film industry seem to be no longer interested in Digital Releases for their films. Quite a few films have announced their arrival for Sankranthi, the biggest season for Telugu films. Movies releasing for Sankranthi are likely to have only 50% occupancies allowed in the theaters. The other films which are already ready for the release are not opting for the OTT release. Even though they are not confident of things becoming normal any sooner.
“Filmmakers are ready to wait until Summer 2021 if needed. They are no longer negotiating with the OTT platforms. This is even as they got fancy offers from various OTT platforms,” a source said. Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab and Vaishnav Tej’s Uppena will be ready for Sankranthi release.
Both the films have got fancy offers from the OTT platforms but they are in no mood to budge. Both films are now postponed until Summer 2021. On the other side, India’s Serum Institute has approached the Government of India for the emergency authorization of the Covishield vaccine which has been jointly produced by AstraZeneca and the Researchers at Oxford University. The industry is hopeful of the Vaccinization program to begin soon and things to become normal at least by Summer 2021.
