Top 5 Anthology Films on OTT 2020

2020 was a big year for the streaming platforms, due to the unforeseen terror that was the coronavirus pandemic. Due to this, multiple films which were slated for theaters were forced to directly release on OTTs. Many films failed but some movies did surprisingly well and this has been true for anthology films as well.

5. Ghost Stories

This is the third set of anthology films which were directed together by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap. The film dropped on Netflix, where it is currently streaming, at the beginning of the year, January 1st 2020.

Synopsis: The winning team of the anthology film ‘Lust Stories’ come together to release four short horror segments in one feature film.

4. Metro Kathalu

Synopsis: Revolving around the metropolitan city of Hyderabad, the film is split into four short stories which focuses on the lives of eight people who all face life-changing choices. 3. Unpaused

This 5 part anthology feature is set in Mumbai during the time of the coronavirus pandemic. The film tackles various important topics not limited to the pandemic itself, isolation, loneliness, toxic masculinity, resilience and homelessness among others. Synopsis: The series follows five groups of people of various income brackets in Mumbai as they navigate through their ups and downs in life while tackling the mother of all pandemics – the coronavirus.

2. Paava Kadhaigal

This film is a Tamil Anthology feature which has been directed by Sudha Kongara, Gautham Menon, Vetrimaaran and Vignesh Shivan. The film was specifically made for Netflix and released on December 18th 2020.

Synopsis: This four part anthology will explore the intricacies and complications of familial (and societal) relationships. There will be four hard hitting tales in this feature will touch on topics varying from love and loving someone of the same sex to honor killings and societal pressures which does not allow you to be who you are.

1. Putham Pudhu Kaalai

This Tamil Anthology feature has multiple big players attached varying from actors and writers to directors and producers. The entire film was shot during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and was set in the backdrop of the 21-day lockdown that happened in March in India this year. Stream this film on Amazon Prime Video.
