It’s that time of the year again! 2020 had a strange impact on our lives and especially on the entertainment industry. Due to shut theatres, majority of the movies which were supposed to arrive on big screens had to find another route to reach the audience. Enter OTT platforms, which actually changed the demographics of movies. Several movies and shows were released in 2020, most of which were loved by the audience, due to less means of entertainment in the pandemic. But nothing to take away from any of the success these movies and shows have got and they have deserved every single praise that they’ve got.
So here are we with a list of top actors of OTT world from the year 2020. There have been a plethora of brilliant performances from many actors who garnered themselves a huge fan following, and here it goes –
5. Nawazuddin Siddiqui – Ghoomketu (Zee5), Raat Akeli Hai, Serious Men (Netflix)
If there is an actor who’ll be there in everyone’s list it’s definitely Nawazuddin Siddiqui! The Sacred Games actor came up with three releases this year with Ghoomketu on Zee5, Raat Akeli Hai & Serious Men both on Netflix. While Ghoomketu was panned as a movie, Nawaz’s acting was as usual top notch. His other two works included Raat Akeli Hai where he played the role of Inspector Jatil Yadav who investigates a mysterious murder.
Serious Men was praised from the moment it got released and many people claimed it to be the best Hindi movie of 2020. Nawazuddin played the role of Ayyan Mani a Dalit who has always been downcasted due to his caste.
4. Pankaj Tripathi – Ludo, Gunjan Saxena (Netflix), Mirzapur S2 (Prime)
Pankaj Tripathi had a busy year as he was a part of several movies including his minor role in Hollywood biggie ‘Extraction’. But we got to see more of him in Ludo, where he played the character of Satyendra Tripathi aka Sattu Bhaiya. His dark comedic role became one of the highlights of Ludo which went on to gain praise for weeks. He played the role of Anup Saxena – father of Gunjan Saxena in Gunjan Saxena : The Kargil Girl, where he won everyone’s hearts with his portrayal of a supportive dad.
Last but not the least, he returned back as Akhandanand Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya in the most awaited series of the year – Mirzapur 2 and made us fall in love with him again
3. Amit Sadh – Avrodh (SonyLiv), Breathe S2, Shakuntala Devi (Amazon Prime) Yaara Operation Parindey (Zee5)
Perhaps the word ‘Omnipresent’ was made for Amit Sadh only, we say that because of his presence in several OTT platforms this year. Sadh started off with Operation Parindey on Zee5 and returned to Amazon Prime for the second season of his hit crime thriller ‘Breathe’ named Breathe: Into The Shadows as Kabir Sawant. He was also seen in Shakuntala Devi. Sadh impressed the audience with both of the above mentioned titles and became a fan favourite this year. He acted in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara and the military drama ‘Avrodh: The Siege Within’ on SonyLIV.
2. Suriya – Soorarai Pottru (Amazon Prime Video)
Alright! Alright! Suriya fans, here’s the moment you’ve been waiting for! After crossing all the hurdles in it’s path, the Sudha Kongara directorial – Soorarai Pottru came as a blessing in disguise for all the cinema lovers as the movie brought the much needed hope for big starrer movies. And Suriya along with his team deserves credit for bringing out such a beautiful film in 2020.
Suriya plays the role of ‘Maara’, a former airforce captain who dreams and desires of opening an airline company which will give affordable trips to the people. Suriya brilliantly captures the emotions which is faced by the character Maara during his journey with several obstacles in his path and makes the movie unmissable.
1. Pratik Gandhi – Scam 1992 (Sony LIV)
Perhaps there won’t be any other actor from 2020 that came into the limelight overnight other than Pratik Gandhi. Though he has worked in several movies before, his turn to shine came with the biggest web series of the year – Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story on SonyLIV. The series focuses on the stockbroker of 90s – Harshad Mehta and his journey from rags to riches.
Pratik delves into the character of Harshad Mehta and brings out a shrewd businessman on screen who wants to be remembered in the history books! With the effortless dialogue delivery and charm everytime he brought into the screens, Pratik Gandhi is definitely the top actor of 2020!
