In a year crowded with winning film acquisitions for Amazon Prime Video, the streaming platform has bagged another big winner. And it is none other than Venkatesh‘s Telugu film, Narappa. The film is a remake of Vetri Maaran and Dhanush‘s Tamil blockbuster Asuran. But that is hardly a dampener for Narappa and Venkatesh fans.
Reviews for Narappa have been pouring in – all of them positive. Very rarely does a film win over both viewers and critics — Narappa has proved to be one such film. And in doing so, it has become a sure-fire winner for Amazon Prime Video in India. 2021 is proving to be highly lucrative for Amazon – Master, Karnan, Toofaan, Malik, Joji, and tons of other highly rated Indian films have premiered on the platform in the first six months of the year.
Ever since Narappa premiered on Amazon Prime Video last night, it has kept social media abuzz. It is constantly trending on both Twitter and Google Search, a testament to the love audiences are showering on the film. Not just Venkatesh fans, die-hard Dhanush fans are also praising Narappa for Venkatesh’s intense, realistic and passionate performance in the film.
Amazon Prime Video is rumoured to have spent a tidy amount to acquire Narappa for a direct to digital release on its platform. Hushed whispers on the ground put the sum at between 30-40 crore, a record for a Telugu direct to digital release, if it is indeed true. However, it is a worthy investment for Amazon Prime Video. The film is being watched and appreciated in large numbers all over South India, and also in the North and West.
All Telugu-speaking viewers have made a beeline for Amazon Prime Video, to watch Narappa and Venkatesh in it, portraying the layered character of a wronged man who extracts his revenge in the most stunning manner possible. All Tamil film fans will watch Narappa, if only for the sake of comparison with the Tamil original, Asuran, and to judge who did it better – Dhanush or Venkatesh. What’s more — Amazon Prime Video has the unique distinction of streaming both – the original Asuran, and the remake Narappa, simultaneously on its platform.
Meanwhile, all other language viewers will watch Narappa to know what the fuss on social media is all about.
Either ways, it means more eyeballs, more buzz, more publicity and more subscribers for Amazon Prime Video, all courtesy, Narappa. If that isn’t a winner, then what is!
