Tollywood film ‘Liger‘, starring Vijay Devarakonda, may be the next big choice for top OTT platforms. In fact, it has all the perfect elements to be quite the catch for streaming platforms, in the midst of the streaming wars going on.
Liger is directed by Puri Jagannadh, who previously directed Superstar Amitabh Bachchan in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap. Liger is the first pan-India project of Vijay Deverakonda. The young hero is familiar to the Hindi audience as his Arjun Reddy was remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh and went on to become a massive hit.
Vijay Deverakonda is a familiar face at Bollywood parties and in the national media since then. Well-known Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is the presenter for Liger. He is planning to ensure a massive release for the movie in the North markets. So naturally, major OTT platforms will be very excited about this project. The movie has Ananya Pandey playing the female lead.
Vijay Deverakonda will be seen as a boxer and the buzz is he will be oozing attitude in the film which will drive the masses and the youth crazy. It has to be seen if Vijay can cast his magic on the North audience as well, like how he has done for the audience in the South. Along with the leads, Liger has accomplished actress Ramya Krishnan playing the crucial role of the protagonist’s mother in the film. Ronit Roy is another popular actor who plays a vital role in the film.
Liger is set in the backdrop of Mumbai. A big schedule is also planned in the United States. The movie shooting was halted during the lockdown, and is set to resume in the next few days. The release date announcement for Liger will also follow soon after. Karan Johar and Puri Jagannadh are hoping for a July 2021 release, after the lineup of ready movies waiting for release is cleared.
Significantly, Liger is planned for release in five Indian languages – Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, making it a true pan-India film. Its pan-India status is a definite draw for the three top OTT platforms, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus Hotstar. Add to it, Liger is an action thriller, a genre which always works well with digital audiences. It is a goldmine of eyeballs for whichever streamer lands Liger.
