Homegrown OTT platforms Voot Select and Ullu App have come together for a content partnership that will kick off from 14th January, 2022. As per the deal, Voot Select will be home to over 100 shows from the Ullu App library, consisting of action-packed Ullu Originals across genres. The first of Ullu shows will start streaming on Voot from January 14th, 2022.
The two video-on-demand platforms have signed a 3-year content deal that will give Voot access to popular original shows from the Ullu library. The shows will span genres such as thriller, crime, horror, and comedy, in different languages. The Ullu Originals include shows headlined by well-known actors such as Rakesh Bapat, Hina Khan, Sharib Hashmi, Rohit Roy, Sharad Malhotra, Anupriya Goenka, Iqbal Khan, Tanushree Dutta, Ashmit Patel, Hiten Tejwani, Minissha Lamba, Rashmi Desai, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, among others.
Voot will stream ten Ullu Original shows in the beginning. Tandoor, Assi Nabbe Pure Sau, Panchali, Cyanide, 26th January are some of the Ullu shows that will stream on Voot from 14th January. Ullu Originals Peshawar, Paper, The Bull of Dalal Street, Tadap and Pratiksha will be available to stream on Voot from 21st January, 2022 onwards.
The Ullu shows will be available on a “free to watch” basis on Voot. Voot’s content partnership with Ullu is in line with the platform’s efforts to strengthen its offering with universally appealing, fresh, entertaining, and engaging content.
The content partnership deal between Voot and Ullu is a win-win for both parties. Voot will get access to readymade content across genres, which will help it to strengthen its content offerings for its subscribers.
By partnering with Voot, Ullu will get a better reach for its shows. The platform has become synonymous with erotic content, as a result of which dedicated OTT viewers give its content a wide berth. Even its well-made content is not consumed much by dedicated OTT viewers. Though Ullu has, in recent times, created shows on diverse interesting topics, its shows have simply flown under the radar due to lack of discerning viewers. A partnership with Voot will allow its shows to get a wider audience and more viewership.
Ullu’s CEO & Founder, Vibhu Agarwal hit the nail on the head when he said about the partnership, “It has always been our intent to make our content widely accessible and available. Our partnership with Voot provides us an excellent opportunity to do so. Most of our Ullu Originals have a binge factor and it matches the consumption pattern of binge watching on Voot. We are sure that Voot viewers will certainly benefit from this association as it offers them content that is fresh and exciting.”
Ullu is one of the few OTT platforms in India that delivers content in a diverse range of Indian languages. In addition to Hindi, it streams its shows in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri and English, amongst others. With this partnership, Voot will gain viewership among the vernacular audience, something that has hardly been its strength.
Voot and Ullu’s content partnership will thus prove to be a win-win one for both platforms.
