Last week we looked into Nivin Pauly’s Top 6 films and the week before that we looked at Fahadh Faasil’s Top 6. This week, let’s look at Nivin’s cousin Tovino Thomas, who started his career in 2012. Tovino came into prominence with his very first outing, in the film ‘Prabhuvinte Makkal’ which was a critical hit. But Tovino is a chameleon- in the sense, he can take on the skin of any character and lose himself in the role. He has played multiple roles varying from protagonists, supporting casts, antagonists as well as short cameos, each role notable and the film made more noteworthy by his presence. Luca (2019):
The movie talks about a rare condition known as Necrophobia and Tovino portrays a person who has this very condition. His ability to completely immerse himself in a role is shown here and we can see him in action as the protagonist in this feature. This film can be streamed on ManoramaMAX.
Synopsis: When a police officer, Akbar comes across a diary during an investigation, he learns about the happenings in the lives of a Kochi-based scrap artist, Luca, and his girlfriend Niharika.
Lucifer (2019):
Tovino has a very short screen time in this heavy-cast juggernaut of a film, but he makes the most of it. This film is known for many things – Superstar Prithviraj’s biggest directorial hit, Mohanlal’s acting prowess, Vivek Oberoi and Manju Warrier’s presence in the film among others. Tovino’s presence is understated, but he plays a vital role in the film as well. Stream this film on Amazon Prime Video.
Synopsis: When the leader of a state-ruling party dies, there is a behind-the-scenes power struggle to fill his shoes. His adopted son, the mysterious Stephen, steps in and faces challenges from all sides.
Mayanadi (2017):
This film shows a different style of film for Tovino Thomas to act in. Set as a love story in the back-drop of a hide-and-seek chase between corrupt cops and an on-the-run thug, this film has been widely acclaimed for its portrayal of “real emotions”. An unusual story-line, the film compares the lives of the two leads showing how they differ. Watch this film online on justwatch.com and MXPlayer.
Synopsis: Maathen, a thug, is on the run after accidentally killing a police officer. However, his decision to meet his beloved Aparna before moving out of the country puts his life in danger.
Virus (2019):
Based on the true story of the spread of the Nipah virus, follow a group of individuals who try to restrain this viral spread with the help of the local state government coordinating with the health services. Tovino portrays a district collector (one of the few times he plays a man who is part of a government body). The film is available online on Amazon Prime Video.
Synopsis: The state of Kerala faces a tremendous outbreak of the life-threatening Nipah virus. However, a group of courageous individuals risk their lives in an attempt to curb the epidemic.
Uyare (2019):
As many of you may have noticed, 2019 was a good year for Tovino. Another role as a supporting actor, Tovino Thomas quietly shines behind Parvathy Thiruvothu. He starts off understated, but his brilliance is clear as day on screen. The feature film is available for viewing on Netflix.
Synopsis: Pallavi aspires to be a pilot but her career is jeopardised when she falls prey to an acid attack by Govind, her obsessive former boyfriend.

Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015):
Tovino Thomas has even less screen time in this film, lesser than in ‘Lucifer’, and he doesn’t have a significant role in the feature. But he provides a memorable face in this critical and commercial hit and it helped him receive more prominent roles in his career. This film is added for its much watch quality. This film can be streamed in Disney+Hotstar.
Synopsis: Set in the 60s -70s, Moideen, a Muslim, and Kanchanamala, a Hindu, are in love. After facing numerous setbacks they unite after a long time, only to become victims of a hapless fate.
