Netflix has reportedly commissioned its next anthology show, this time in Malayalam. The new anthology is studded with the stars of the Malayalam film industry – biggies Mohanlal, Mammootty and Fahadh Faasil, among others. With a cast like that, Netflix’s new anthology will be a hard act to top!
Asif Ali and Shanti Krishna are some other names that are associated with the new Netflix anthology. The cherry on the cake is that Netflix has roped in Tamil films superstar Kamal Haasan to present the different segments of the anthology. Kamal Haasan will not act in or direct any of the short stories of the Netflix anthology.
Not just in the acting department, Netflix has also reportedly assembled a brilliant set of directors to helm the myriad segments of the Malayalam anthology. Some of the names reported in the media are stellar directors Lijo Jose Pellissery (Churuli, Jallikattu); Priyadarshan (Hera Pheri, Marakkar); Jayaraj (Desadanam, 4 The People); Santosh Sivan (Asoka, Prarambha); Mahesh Narayanan (Malik, CU Soon); Shyamaprasad (Hey Jude, Oru Njayarazhcha), among others.
Netflix’s new Malayalam language anthology will be based on the short stories of M.T Vasudevan Nair, celebrated author, screenplay writer and director in the Malayalam language. Santosh Narayanan is directing Malayalam cinema’s rising star Fahadh Faasil for his segment in the anthology. Lijo Jose Pellisery is shooting with Mammootty for his short story. Priyadarshan is reportedly directing a segment based on M.T Vasudevan Nair’s story Olavum Theeravum. The short story was made into a film back in 1969.
