Moshe Zander, the writer for the acclaimed Netflix show ‘Fauda’ has created and written, ‘Tehran’, an Israeli thriller as his next.
The eight-part series has been picked up by Apple TV+ for exclusive streaming rights for all its viewers across the globe. It will co-produce the show with Cineflix Rights and Kan 11, an Israeli network where the show was originally aired.
‘Tehran’ follows a talented hacker who is recruited to be a Mossad agent, Tamar Rabinayan, who is undercover on a life threatening mission in Tehran where she is instructed to hack into an Iranian nuclear reactor. But when the mission is not successful, she is stuck in the city and gets caught up with pro-democracy activists.
The show tackles issues of immigration, patriotism and one’s own identity based in the times of the Iran-Israel conflict.
It stars Israeli actress, Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinayan along with actors Shaun Toub, Navid Negahban, Shervin Alenabi, Menashe Noy and Liraz Charhi.
The show premieres on June 22nd in Israel but no announcements have been made for its worldwide release date yet.
Apple TV+ is increasing its list of exclusive movies and TV shows to compete with established platforms like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar. International TV shows such as Suspicion, Pachinko and Shantaram are some of the other Apple TV+ originals that the platform has aired previously.
It just goes to show that international dramas that already have a fan base in certain regions and have strong critical reviews are an easy and cost effective way for the OTT platforms to keep up with the competition.
