Palasa 1978, is a Telugu language realistic drama starring Rakshith in the lead. The movie opened to reasonably decent reviews, with most recommending it for a digital watch.
It is the late seventies, in the Palasa village of Srikakulam. There is a deep-rooted caste system in place. Pedda Savukaru aka Linga Murthy is the head of the area. He is mentally deceptive and physically exerts power riding on the strength of Bairagi. He has a tiff with his brother Guru Murthy aka Chinna Savukaru (Raghu Kunche). It forces the later out of the village.
Mohan Rao (Rakshith) and Ranga Rao (Thiruveer) are brothers of a low caste origin. Mohan Rao is the muscle man whereas Ranga Rao is the brainy one. A growing tension is always prevailing between them and Tarakesu (Prawin Yendamuri), the son of Pedda Savukar. One such altercation leads to the Rao brothers breaking the legs of Tarakesu.
An angered Pedda Savukar orders Bairagi to kill the Rao brothers. When the brothers are faced with the inevitability of death, Mohan Rao raises to the occasion and emerges a monster killer. How this act changes the power equation and brings Guru Murthy back in the game? Where do the brothers go from this point is the basic story of the movie.
The raw and brutal presentation of the reality with a no holds barred language is the real highlight of the movie. Karuna Kumar wrote and directed the movie. Nakshatra, Laxman Meesala, Prawin Yendamuri etc. play other critical parts. Dhyan Atluri produced the film.
