The Platform is a Spanish sci-fi film with elements of horror and paranoia. It is set in the backdrop of a vertical tower prison, with each floor of the tower acting as cells to hold the prisoners. The inmates are fed by means of a huge food-laden platform that travels between the floors. The prisoners at the top get to eat their fill, after which the platform moves to the lower floors, until it reaches the bottom floors.
The inmates on the lower floors have to make do with whatever food is left over after upper floor inmates have eaten. Initially, the platform is laden with food, enough to feed all the inmates present in the prison. But that never happens, as greed and gluttony take hold of the upper floor inmates, making them grab more than necessary, while the lower floor inmates scrounge, fight and even kill, to get hold of leftover scraps. Some simply die of starvation. There are even hints of cannibalism as the lowest floor inmates carry away a man’s body who died of starvation, obviously to feed on it. One man wants to fight and change the horrific system, but has to deal with an even more terrifying fate.
