In Paul’s family, there is always talk about needing more money. The tension in the household over lack of funds weighs heavily on Paul’s young mind. After Paul’s uncle cracks a joke about “filthy lucker”, he becomes obsessed with finding luck, so that his family will have the money they need. His luck at the race track begins to improve, but the cost may be higher than anyone knows.
